I truly believe that we are all afraid of being looked down on. You know, the times that we want to just curl up in a ball and cry… but we can’t because of what people will think of us.
I had this experience just the other day, when I somehow managed to knee myself in the face very badly. It still hurts and I can’t even touch it, at that very moment I just wanted to cry… but I was surrounded by my peers and could not do so.
Just a little later though, the tears started rolling. I tried to hide them, but felt relief when nobody was looking at me funny. I know they wouldn’t because they are more than that to me and are there to support me, but I still felt low in comparison.
For many, many years we have lived the life of what others think of us, and that is our goal in life: to not be thought of badly.
When we do so though… we sometimes begin to get cocky and rude or disrespectful. Our esteem is so high that then we just begin to think Well I can just do whatever I want now, and people will just have to accept it!! But they don’t and then you get a reputation, not a good one at all.
People stop being your friend and talk about you behind your back.
You’ve completely lost the sole purpose of how you acted to begin with, and all is gone now.
Children, cartoon animals, comedians,
and space aliens can get away with saying
what the rest of us are afraid is true,
but are embarrassed to talk about.
